How to instantly switch your mood from sad to happy

Life is full of challenges. Sometimes these challenges become so overwhelming that one may forget what happiness feels like. One thing most of us don’t know is that being sad and depressed won’t help solve problems. It’s okay to cry, but since crying won’t help either, wipe off your tears when you’re through with crying and move on. Try to be happy. If you’re wondering how you can be happy with so many problems, here are a few tips to help put you in a good mood despite what you’re going through.
1. Smile
In as much as a smile is brought by joy, it can also make someone happy. There are times when you feel down because of what life has thrown your way. It doesn’t matter what you are going through, just smile. Smiling positively affects your brain. It stimulates happy feelings. Showing the world a sad face won’t help solve your problems. Ooze with positivity through your smile, instead. Things may not be working out now but they will work out eventually. Nature has a way of putting everything in its place. Don’t stress over it.

2. Go bananas
Well, not literary, of course. Bananas can help boost the levels of serotonin in the body. Serotonin is also called the ‘happy hormone’. Feeling sad and depressed may be due to low serotonin levels in the body. Eating a banana when you are in a bad mood instantly puts you in a good mood. I have tried it many times and it works. Once I eat a banana I instantly cheer up and feel good about myself if I was sad.

3. Think happy thoughts
Happiness is always within you. It doesn’t matter what you’re going through. You have the power to decide what you want to feel. The secret is in your thoughts. If you have depressing thoughts you will surely be depressed and if you think happy thoughts, you will be happy. Happy thoughts will give you the energy to face and overcome your problem whereas sad thoughts will help you magnify the problem.

4. Choose to be happy
Someone said that if you don’t let go of happiness, happiness won’t leave you. This got me thinking. Many times we let material things or people determine our happiness, which is very sad. We should be in control of our happiness. We should choose to be happy no matter what. Don’t let the trials and tribulations of life weigh you down. Work hard to solve your problems and trust in God’s power to make everything right. Just don’t let the sorrows take away your happiness.

5. Exercise
Working out is a good way to fight stress and feelings of sadness. It helps get rid of the negative energy in the body. When you work out, the Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor, a protein responsible for fighting stress is produced in the brain. This protein, together with other stress fighting chemicals like endorphins reset your brain and induce happiness. That is why you feel so good, and with a clear mind after working out.

In conclusion, these five tips have helped me maintain my good mood through my challenges. I have been at peace with myself and life ever since I started practicing them. You can try them and see if they work. Feel free to share your thoughts on this subject.
