Many people do not know how to handle African hair because of all the tangles and knots it makes. Many hair stylists just comb through it with force to get the knots out, and that is how hair breaks. I remember a time when I went to the salon to have my hair straightened. The hair stylist washed my hair and conditioned it. Then without fully detangling it, she mercilessly went through it with a comb. As she combed through my hair, I could see my hair breaking. It was all over the floor. I felt sad but there was nothing I could do. I couldn't stop her because I thought she would be embarrassed. How stupid of me!
I just sat there and let her rip my hair apart. After that session, I went home with a heavy heart. My hair was even shorter than it was some months back.
You should never trust your hair with anybody. Many stylists only care about the cash they will receive from you, they don’t give a damn about your hair. Therefore, speak up if you see that your hair stylist is doing things that will harm your hair. Also, you can take care of it yourself. Just remember to be gentle with it because that is one way of retaining length.
